Less than 10 minutes from the University of Klagenfurt is a winter wonderland, ideal for sledding with the kids.
Lake Wörthersee
It is a short walk from the university campus and Lakeside Park to the beaches of the fabulous Wörthersee. In summer, locals and visitors enjoy the crystal clear water for swimming. Kids play in the sandy beach and eat ice cream. Some excursion and sailing boats are on the way. A wooden tower overlooks the lake.

Outdoor activities
Carinthia offers countless opportunities for outdoor activities. People like to go hiking or biking in the mountains, swimming or paddling in one of the many lakes, or simply enjoying the beautiful nature.

Weekend trips
Many Carinthians enjoy spending a long weekend at the Adriatic Sea or in the Alps. In just 2.5 hours, one can reach popular beach spots like Grado, Lignano, and Bibione. The Carinthian and Tyrolean Alps offer excellent hiking and skiing opportunities.
One of the invaluable goodies about working or studying at U Klagenfurt is that you can enjoy extended weekends at the Adriatic Sea. It is only a 2.5-hour drive from Klagenfurt.
The Dolomites are always worth a visit. A hike around the beautiful Pragser Wildsee (Lake Prags) in South Tyrol should be made outside of peak season. It is only a 2.5-hour drive from Klagenfurt.
